... back to window shopping

One scenario where window shopping comes up is when I'm telling my husband something I'm excited to do. For him, being excited to do it means that it absolutely will happen unless something unforseen and uncontrollable happens that get's in the way. For me, being excited is just being excited. It means I thought about it and it seemed like a good idea and I'd like to try. Whether or not I ever actually try is a whole other thing. So I can easily overwhelm him by telling him things I'm excited about because he thinks of it in the way of, "how could you possible do all of those things?" And of course I know that it's not possible to do all of those things, I'm not even going to attempt it-- but I'll probably try one of those things. So the term we use for that is window shopping. It helps us be able to have these conversations, where he can be excited for me because I'm excited-- but not be stressed by thinking that I've decided on a whim to commit to all of these decisions.

these are some of my recent window shopping ideas:
write a book
run well
learn tennis
blog (yes! its actually happening)
learn another language
play guitar well
get my masters degree

Did you know that Mom and I had this same conversation about 28 years ago?
